Medical Detoxification
Duration: 3-7 Days | 24/7 Medical Supervision
Medical detoxification is the critical first step in treating substance use disorders. At RDW Helpline, our medically supervised detox program provides a safe, comfortable environment where your body can begin to heal from the physical effects of addiction. Our Oakland treatment center is staffed around the clock by physicians, nurses, and clinical specialists who monitor every aspect of the withdrawal process.
The Detox Process
Our medically supervised detox follows a structured three-phase approach to ensure your safety and comfort throughout the withdrawal process:
Assessment
Comprehensive medical evaluation, substance use history, mental health screening, and personalized detox plan development.
Stabilization
Medical monitoring with medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to manage withdrawal symptoms, ensure vital sign stability, and address complications.
Transition
Preparation for the next level of care with treatment planning, counseling introduction, and seamless transfer to residential or outpatient programming.
Substances We Treat
Our medical team is experienced in managing withdrawal from a wide range of substances, including:
- Alcohol - risk of seizures and delirium tremens requires medical supervision
- Opioids (heroin, fentanyl, prescription painkillers) - MAT available including buprenorphine and naltrexone
- Benzodiazepines - careful tapering protocols to prevent life-threatening withdrawal
- Cocaine and methamphetamine - supportive care for stimulant withdrawal symptoms
- Prescription drugs - individualized protocols based on substance type and duration of use
- Marijuana - supportive detox with focus on sleep, appetite, and mood stabilization
Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)
RDW Helpline utilizes FDA-approved medications as part of our evidence-based detox approach. MAT helps reduce cravings, alleviate withdrawal symptoms, and stabilize brain chemistry. Our physicians carefully select and monitor medications based on each patient's specific substance use history, medical conditions, and treatment goals. MAT is always combined with behavioral therapies for a whole-person approach to recovery.

Outpatient Treatment Programs
Flexible Scheduling | Step-Down Continuum of Care
Our outpatient programs at RDW Helpline provide structured, evidence-based treatment that allows patients to maintain their daily responsibilities while receiving the care they need. Whether stepping down from residential treatment or beginning recovery with a flexible option, our outpatient track offers multiple levels of intensity to match your clinical needs and lifestyle.
Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)
Duration: 2-4 Weeks | 5-6 Days per Week | 20-30 Hours Weekly
Our PHP provides the highest level of outpatient care, serving as an ideal step-down from residential treatment or an alternative for patients who need intensive support but do not require 24-hour supervision. Patients attend structured programming for most of the day, returning home or to sober living in the evenings. PHP includes daily group therapy, individual counseling, psychiatric consultation, and psychoeducation.
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
Duration: 8-12 Weeks | 3-5 Days per Week | 9-15 Hours Weekly
Our IOP bridges the gap between full-time treatment and independent recovery. Patients attend therapy sessions during the day or evening, allowing them to work, attend school, or care for family. IOP focuses on relapse prevention, coping skills, group therapy, and continued individual counseling. It is an effective option for those who have completed PHP or residential treatment, or for individuals whose addiction severity allows for this level of care.
Standard Outpatient Program
Duration: Ongoing | 1-2 Sessions per Week | 1-5 Hours Weekly
Our standard outpatient program supports long-term recovery through regular individual therapy, group sessions, and check-ins. This level of care is ideal for patients who have progressed through higher levels of treatment and are establishing their recovery in daily life. It also serves as an aftercare component, providing ongoing accountability and support.

Step-Down Care Approach
At RDW Helpline, we believe in a seamless continuum of care. Most patients progress through multiple levels of treatment as their recovery strengthens. A typical step-down pathway moves from medical detox to residential treatment, then to PHP, followed by IOP, and finally standard outpatient and aftercare. This graduated approach ensures that support is always proportional to need, reducing the risk of relapse during transitions.
Dual Diagnosis Treatment
Integrated Care for Co-Occurring Disorders
Dual diagnosis treatment addresses the complex relationship between substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions. Research shows that nearly half of individuals with a substance use disorder also experience a mental health disorder. At RDW Helpline, our integrated approach treats both conditions simultaneously, recognizing that lasting recovery requires addressing the whole person -- not just the addiction.
Co-Occurring Disorders We Treat
Our clinical team is experienced in diagnosing and treating a wide range of mental health conditions alongside addiction, including:
Depression
Major depressive disorder, persistent depressive disorder, and substance-induced mood disorders.
Anxiety Disorders
Generalized anxiety, social anxiety, panic disorder, and phobia-related conditions.
PTSD & Trauma
Post-traumatic stress disorder, complex trauma, and trauma-related dissociative disorders.
Bipolar Disorder
Bipolar I and II, cyclothymic disorder, and mood instability co-occurring with addiction.
Our Integrated Approach
Rather than treating addiction and mental health as separate issues, RDW Helpline uses an integrated model that addresses both conditions within the same treatment plan. Our approach includes:
- Comprehensive psychiatric evaluation and ongoing medication management
- Trauma-informed care woven throughout all therapeutic programming
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to address thought patterns driving both conditions
- Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) for emotional regulation and distress tolerance
- Individual therapy sessions focused on the interplay between mental health and substance use
- Group therapy specifically designed for dual diagnosis patients
- Family education to help loved ones understand co-occurring disorders
- Holistic wellness practices including mindfulness, meditation, and stress management
Psychiatric Care
Our board-certified psychiatrists work closely with each patient to evaluate mental health needs, prescribe and adjust medications, and monitor treatment response throughout the recovery process. Psychiatric care is fully integrated with addiction treatment programming, ensuring that medication management and therapeutic interventions work in concert to support the best possible outcomes.
